🙂 = Fresh bagels! You can see where they are made. Many types of cream cheese, fish, salads, pastries, cookies, etc.

🙁 = No high chairs and the tables are a little high – we had to sit on our knees. There is a bathroom, but no changing table.

Note: There are 2 lines. The long line is likely for ordering sandwiches, but if you just want some bagels, you can skip the line and walk around to the front. Also, if you have a stroller, you have to jump it up a step to enter. Not difficult, but if you have a sleeping baby in the stroller, it might not be worth the risk of waking them. If you have a little toddler who can’t sit on their own and you don’t want them sitting on your lap, consider take-out. Hours: Mon – Fri: 6:00AM-9:00PM. Sat-Sun: 6:00AM-5:00PM.

Ess-A-Bagel is easily one of the most popular bagels in Manhattan. And we figured out why, fairly quickly (yup, they’re delicious, we will tell you all about it!). We arrived early and saw a line. Thankfully, the line moved quickly, and we were at the front of the ordering counter in no time! When we got to the front, we realized that since we weren’t getting sandwiches, we didn’t even have to stand in the line after all! Oh well, too late…

Instead of getting sandwiches, we got a small cream cheese, some bagels (we got whole wheat, and mommy and daddy got “everything” ones with lots of salt, onion and garlic), and a ¼ lb of lox (smoked fish). This way, we could make our own sandwiches! We could have also gotten one of many kinds of spreads for our bagels – there was a huge deli counter so you could see what you’re getting. But yes, we LOVE smoked fish. We chose to get each bagel topping separately because the sandwiches looked really big – way too big for our mouths and with so much cream cheese that we would have made a total mess of ourselves.

You order, get your food, and seat yourself down if you find a table. At 9 am, the table was fairly simple to find. But the time we left at 9:30, the tables were much busier, and the line was out the door. So, if your toddler likes to wake up early, just like us, and you want a fairly quick, delicious breakfast, Ess-a-Bagel is a pretty good bet!
